THIS is the latest exhibit at Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery, which was bought by the venue after it receiving a donation from a local couple.
The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, decided to donate after attending a talk about an exhibition of the museum’s watercolours.
They spoke to Neil McGregor, the museums officer for art and exhibitions, telling him they would like to help the museum add a new piece to its collection.
Local sculptor Hilary Cartmel, who has completed over 60 projects, held a very successful exhibition at the museum the year before and was asked if she would be willing to sell one of her sculptures.
Hilary said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have my work in the collection of Doncaster Museum Service.”
The new sculpture is entitled An Idea erupted in the Mind of the Artist and comprises a head made of steel, bronze and glass.
Joan Beck, Doncaster Council’s director of adults and communities said: “The new sculpture, which the museum service would never have been able to acquire without the generous donation, is a wonderful addition to the museum’s collection.”
