A gym instructor swapped his bench press for the boardroom as he became Principal for the day as part of a job swap.
Courtney Sterling, aged 19, sat in the Dearne Valley College boss’s chair for a few hours and accompanied principal Martin Harrison to a meeting with a group of the college’s engineering students.
And then the roles reversed - as Mr Harrison pulled on a gym top to help out Courtney in a personal training session with a client.
The job swap aimed to give both Courtney and Mr Harrison an insight into each other’s roles.
Courtney is currently on a level two instructing fitness and exercise apprenticeships at the college sports centre, DVC Sports.
The swap enabled Mr Harrison to gain a feel for the typical working day of a modern apprentice.
Mr Harrison said: “It’s really important for me to understand exactly what it’s like to be a Dearne Valley College student. I jumped at the chance to spend some time learning about Courtney’s position.”
Courtney said: “I was excited to show the Principal what I do on a daily basis. It was also really interesting to shadow him to see what goes on behind the scenes.
“I got quite comfortable at his desk!”
