THESE youngsters had a crack at getting fit...Royal Marines-style.

A team from the elite Army regiment, which has been involved in the fighting in Afghanistan, spent a day at Balby Carr School.

Fitness coaches from the regiment talked the pupils through some of the techniques used to keep their soldiers in tip-top physical condition.

The regiment is famous for its demanding selection procedures, which are said to be some of the toughest in the world.

A school spokeswoman said the Marines spent the whole day at the site on Weston Road, and worked with a group of its Year 10 students.

She said their visit involved raising awareness of career routes and also physical activities and promoting team work.

She described it as both physically and emotionally challenging for the pupils who took part.

There was also a barbecue put on as part of the event.
