THREE students from Doncaster College’s Fresh Start programme tasted life in Sweden as part of a Europe-wide programme.
Jade Wallace, Eliesha Keeling and Ashley Rook, all 17, took part in the first scheme of its kind for the college’s Fresh Start programme, which aims to develop self esteem and a self belief in young people.
After brief introductions with the local hosts, Haga Gymnasiet Second Chance School, the teenagers began their work placement within the Hageby Shopping mall. Jade and Ashley worked at a supermarket and Eliesha worked at a sports and leisure store.
Carole Colvin, assistant director of creative industries at Doncaster College said: “The placements were a huge success with the college students engaging in their work superbly and visibly gaining in confidence and motivation.
“As well as working hard as part of a team they overcame the language barrier to demonstrate excellent communication skills and they were given glowing references by their employers.”
Jade said “The work placement was a brilliant experience where we both worked hard and had fun.”
