STAFF at Chesterfield College are to go on strike tomorrow after managers tabled proposals to bring in a two-year pay freeze for all workers.
University and College Union members had already voted to walk out over plans to cut the pay of hourly-paid staff by 20 per cent.
UCU regional officer Anne O’Sullivan said: “While some progress had been made in talks with the college, management had not moved far enough and was wrong to ambush us with plans for a two year pay freeze.
“Members do not want to take strike action but they will not simply sit by while their pay is slashed.”
The college says it has to take action due to funding cuts and is committed to further negotiations.
