College seeks permission to set up town’s very first zoo

Animals of all sorts could be coming to Barnsley – as the town’s college has applied for a licence to set up a zoo.

The college’s Wigfield Farm at Worsbrough is already home to a range of creatures who form part of its animal care courses.

But if the licence is granted the farm could be home to wallabies, reindeer, skunks, tapir, racoons and marmosets.

The planned zoo is the vision of farm manager Wendy Wann who said the animals would give students more experience.
