Call the midwife!
A Barnsley woman’s decision to return to learning has given birth to a brand new career - after she passed a degree and landed her first midwifery job.
Claire Bailey, 45, had hankered after a career as a midwife since childhood but finally decided to do something about it.
She enrolled at Barnsley College on an access to higher education course in health and nursing, as well as studying maths.
Claire, of Pilley Lane, Tankersley, has now graduated with a first class degree in midwifery studies from the University of Huddersfield.
She has now landed a job at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
Claire said: “I wanted to be a midwife when I was a child but went down a different career path and worked in business administration for many years.
“My own experiences of giving birth prompted me to consider the idea again and I thought ‘It’s now or never’ and enrolled on the access course at Barnsley College.”
