A councillor has called for takeaways to be banned near schools.
Public Health England said a ban on fast food outlets within a five-minute walk of schools was needed to help tackle obesity in children and young people.
Rotherham Boston Castle councillor Mahroof Hussain, who campaigned to stop a KFC being built close to Canklow Wood Primary School, is backing the calls.
He added: “It doesn’t make sense to have a fast food store 20 seconds walk from a school that’s trying to impose a healthy eating menu.
“Obesity in children is becoming a big issue across the country and local authorities should stop it from happening.
“It entices people.”
