How far will the kindness of strangers get you? In these students’ case, all the way from Sheffield to Split!
Bummit is the award-winning annual charity hitch-hike organised by The University of Sheffield Students’ Union.
This year, more than 350 students took up the challenge of getting from Sheffield to the Croatian city of Split in just nine days.
They had to rely purely on the support of passing motorists in order to get them to their destination.
In 2013 Bummit won the Best Event prize at the Find Invest Grow National RAG Awards, which recognises excellence in student fundraising.
Bummit is part of Sheffield RAG Raising and Giving, the Students’ Union’s fundraising department.
It organises hundreds of fundraising events and activities throughout the year.
Last year’s activities raised in excess of £174,600, with 82 per cent of the final sum donated to local charities. This year Bummit alone is expected to raise more than £70,000 for its selection of good causes, including Sheffield Young Carers, the Cathedral Archer Project, The Sick Children’s Trust, Aquabox and Trees for Cities.
