FORMER Education Secretary and Sheffield MP David Blunkett has been invited to the opening of a revamped school in the city.
The Brightside and Hillsborough Labour MP will be a special guest at the event, on Saturday, September 17, to mark the completion of a multi-million pound project to refurbish and extend High Storrs School.
Mr Blunkett said: “It’s excellent to be able to celebrate the 130-year history of the different phases of the school, at the same time as opening officially the new buildings and facilities.
“Fortunately, with a great deal of foresight locally, this and other secondary school projects were commenced before the clampdown on investment.
“High Storrs has a terrific history not only in providing high standards and quality education for individual pupils but in the life of the wider community and the city of Sheffield.
“I’m very proud as the former Education Secretary to have been invited to join in the celebrations.”
A book about the school’s history will be launched, with all proceeds going to school funds.
The school is also trying to find the oldest surviving ex-pupils.
