Rotherham’s libraries are hoping to transform the town’s children into bookworms with a summer holidays reading challenge.
The Story Lab Summer is encouraging children aged four to 11 to read six books over the school break – with rewards, incentives and activities to get them going.
Medals and certificates are up for grabs for those who complete the challenge, while each library will host events including manga art workshops and visits from children’s author Ali Sparkes.
Mark Heaton, library manager for the council’s children’s services, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is the highlight of the year for library staff and the thousands of children who take part.
“We hope to beat last year’s figure of 2,591 children taking part.”
