A BARNSLEY headteacher has been elected as president of one of the main teaching unions.

Steve Iredale from Athersley South Primary School will begin his role as leader of the National Association of Head Teachers next month.

Mr Iredale said he would use his time to show the Government a ‘better way of working’ and would seek to build trust.

He wants to tackle issues including concerns with the Ofsted inspection system, academies and pay and conditions.

The NAHT is an independent trade union representing more than 28,500 members in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
