Barnsley College has become the first college in the country to develop its own crowdfunding site to help students.

BCKickstart is a project run by the college which offers students from the college and University Campus Barnsley an opportunity to raise funds for a range of business ideas and projects.

Businesses involved with the iTrust initiative, a joint venture between Barnsley College and the Barnsley Chronicle, can also use the platform.

Rubina Rashid, Head of Enterprise at Barnsley College, said: “It can be very hard for new businesses to get off the ground but this new crowdfunding platform will give our entrepreneurial students both financial help and a brilliant confidence boost when they see that other people are keen to support them.

“Setting up a business is one of a variety of options available to students when they leave college and many continue on to university and keep their businesses going as a sideline.”

Anyone interested in supporting the new businesses can go online to www.bckickstart.co.uk and donate money to help any of the listed business owners buy a particular item that will help them grow their companies.
