A little South Yorkshire schoolgirl with big talent will have her design printed on a real Christmas card.

Alysha Abbott, a Year Five pupil at Ashwood Primary School, Rawmarsh, Rotherham beat off stiff competition to have her image used in the festive message Linda McAvan, Labour MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber, sends to contacts.

The competition asked children to come up with a design based on the theme Christmas in Africa.

Linda’s chosen charity for 2013 is Oxfam, raising money for a girl’s education project in Niger. The winning card will help to raise awareness of the scheme.

Packs will be sold at the school and proceeds donated to the project. Alysha won a book token and designs from runners-up will feature on the back of the card.
