The trust running a Sheffield primary school has applied to replace its roof.
Tapton School Academy Trust wants to put new slates on the Hillsborough Primary School buildings.
A statement prepared by trust facilities manager Tommie Barker said the work needed doing because of the age of the roof.
“The school was built in 1884 therefore the slates are 133 years old, apart from the east block that was re-roofed only a couple of years ago,” he said.
“We have a plan over several years to replace the slates to all buildings within the Hillsborough Primary School site, cost and time being the reason for not completing the full site within a single set of works.”
Replacing the roof would make the building more weathertight, said Mr Barker, while reducing energy costs, reducing maintenance costs and bringing the look of the roof ‘back to its former glory’.
