125,000 reached through music

And the event marked a milestone, as 125,000 participants have now been reached through Music in the Round’s community work.

Primary school children and their teachers could be heard singing their hearts out to music performed by professional musicians from Sheffield’s resident classical group, Ensemble 360.

The children were following the lead of narrator Polly Ives, as part of Music in the Round’s latest concert for schools – The Chimpanzees of Happytown.

Throughout the year, Music in the Round works with children, young people and adults across the city and beyond, in partnership with Sheffield Music Hub, introducing them to classical music, giving them opportunities to meet and perform alongside professional musicians and nurturing the city’s most talented young musicians in their careers.

The musical organisation’s learning and participation manager, Fraser Wilson, said: “We are incredibly proud of the work we do.

“To have reached the 125,000 total number of participants this year feels like a great measure of our achievement.

“We offer a wide variety of experiences, from introducing schoolchildren to first classical concerts to giving them the chance to have their own compositions performed.”
