A parade through Doncaster organised by supporters of the right wing English Defence League in memory of murdered solider Lee Rigby passed off without incident.

The organisation set up a number of events at towns across England to commemorate Drummer Rigby, brutally killed in Woolwich last month.

Supporters in Doncaster gathered at the Old Angel pub in Cleveland Street for the walk to the war memorial outside Elmfield Park.

More than 150 supporters turned out for the walk, monitored by South Yorkshire Police officers on the ground as well as the force helicopter which circled overhead during the Saturday lunchtime event.

At the park, wreaths were laid, a short poem read and there was a round of applause in celebration of Drummer Rigby’s life.

No groups turned up to protest.

The Gate House in Priory Walk was closed after it was revealed supporters planned to meet there.
