Have your say

I was absolutely honoured to share a very special evening with Sheffield’s most inspirational teachers yesterday.

There were tears of joy, faces filled with genuine surprise and teams absolutely busting with pride as the winners of our education awards were announced.

It is a great privilege to be able to be able to celebrate the people who directly shape our future generations and therefore the future of our city.

But these awards were about much more than that. They honoured children who had done exceptionally well, young sports teams, green schools and those leading the way technologically.

I left that inspirational atmosphere and come back down with a bump to the stark figures on today’s front page about the compensation culture creeping into our schools.

It is the job of your local newspaper to reflect highs and lows - schools are part of that. I’m not a fan of suing people in our public services. I don’t believe they deliberately make mistake.

So together lets celebrate the many amazing people who we entrust with our children.

You’ll find our special awards supplement in Thursday’s Star and we always welcome your letters highlighting the great work of individuals.
