Eddie Izzard legs it through Sheffield estate - VIDEO
MOTORISTS were forgiven for doing a double take - when they spotted comedian and actor Eddie Izzard running through the streets of Sheffield yesterday.
The cross-dressing comic was in the city as part of his mammoth bid to run more than 1,000 miles around the UK in just seven weeks.
Startled passers-by and motorists looked twice when they spotted big-hearted Eddie running down Halifax Road as part of his charity fundraiser.
Former Sheffield University student Eddie is undertaking the challenge to raise funds for Sport Relief.,
One passer-by who spotted the 47-year-old on Halifax Road said: "I couldn't believe it - Eddie Izzard crossing through Parson Cross
"He was legging it down Halifax Road and I had no idea why this Hollywood star and sometime comedian was running through my council estate. I asked him and he said he was on his Sport Relief charity run."
Since setting off from Trafalgar Square in London in July, Eddie has covered around 30 miles a day - longer than the length of a marathon - in an epic journey which has taken him all over the UK.
Eddie, who runs about five miles per hour, said: "I had always wanted to do a big physical running challenge and this seemed a great way to do it and also raise money to help Africa and the poorest countries in the world."
Eddie has a small support group of route planners and a sports therapist for any medical or nutritional requirements.
The comedian has been keeping fans up to date with his progress with regular posts to his Twitter site.
Sport Relief, part of Comic Relief, aims to use sport to improve lives and money raised help people in the UK and in the world's poorest nations.
