Eco-friendly businesses are honoured with awards

Businesses in the Peak District have been honoured for their eco-friendly approach.

Bakewell Soap, Peat Pits Farm Holiday Cottages in Bradfield and Hathersage’s Sladen Lodge were among nine firms in the area honoured with Environmental Quality Mark awards.

An outstanding contribution gong was also given to Paul and Elspeth Walker of Dove Valley Centre, Sheen, for using environmentally-friendly ways of working for the past decade.

Retired Ken Parker, who founded the Environmental Quality scheme in 2003 when he worked for the Peak District National Park Authority, was also recognised at the awards’ 10th anniversary celebration.

Coun Tony Favell, Peak District National Park Authority chairman, presented the awards during an evening ceremony at Thornbridge Hall, near Ashford in the Water in the heart of the Peak District.

He said: “Each of these businesses supports their local economy, works to reduce their environmental impact, plays an active role in their local community and helps conserve the national park.”
