ECO-MINDED students at a Sheffield school have been recognised for their efforts to protect the environment.
Birkdale School has been given a Bronze Eco-School award after a committee of pupils completed an audit of the school to assess its use of energy, transport, litter and waste.
An action plan was developed and the school has now made several changes.
It uses a new refuse company to recycle more materials, and youngsters are encouraged to cycle to school and park in a new bike shelter.
Future plans include a walking-to-school scheme, restoring a pond to use in lessons, and a possible wind turbine or solar panels.
Eco-School is an international award programme.
