Eastwood residents paint the town

THE roar of the facepaint could be heard in Rotherham - when kids were transformed into tigers for a fun day on Eldon playing fields.

Entertainment at the Eastwood FunFest included face painting, henna tattoos, body art, birds of prey, a bungee swing and lots of stalls, including ones manned by South Yorkshire Police and community group RotherFed.

Live music and performances were provided by the Shiloh Church Gospel Choir.

The event kicked off with the Eastwood Cohesion Cup football tournament. Teams from Kimberworth, Eastwood, Rawmarsh, Maltby and a local Roma community competed for the title and Kimberworth team Kimmy FC were the eventual winners, hoisting the prized cup.

Coun Mahroof Hussain said: "Every year FunFest brings people together from Eastwood and gives them chance to get to know their neighbours a little bit better. There was a great atmosphere. It goes to show how important this type of event is."
