UP they go! Sheffield Eagles players Menzie Yere and Dane McDonald soared above the city after hitching a lift on a giant crane.

The rugby league stars were taken nearly 100 feet above the Showroom Cinema to the surprise of passengers who were leaving the railway station.

“It was great up there - we were up with the birds,” said Papua New Guinea international Yere.

Attached from the steel safety cage was an Eagles’ banner promoting the club, who play their final three home games at Bramall Lane this month.

The massive mobile crane, from industrial relocation engineers Hanlon and Wright, was here to lift an air conditioning unit onto the cinema.

The company’s boss Chris Noble is an Eagles director and offered the players a chance to enjoy the high life.

He said: “Five of the players came along but some of them didn’t seem that keen on going up! But Menzie and Dane jumped at the chance.”
