Duo cued up for their final
SHEFFIELD is to stage a snooker final with a difference today - when both finalists will be people with disabilities.
The final is being played in the Cue Zone tent in Tudor Square when Michael Gibbon, aged 35, takes on Gary Andrew, 47.
The two contenders say they are ecstatic at the prospect - and Michael was so overcome with joy at winning his semi-final he ran round the table to his mother, with tears in his eyes.
The tournament attracted almost 100 competitors who battled it out through four qualifying rounds this month and last.
Sheffield's Lord Mayor Coun Arthur Dunworth and snooker favourite Jimmy 'The Whirlwind' White will be on hand to present the prizes to the finalists.
The event, organised by the Stephen Harrison Academy in Hillsborough, aims to showcase the benefits snooker can provide to people who have learning disabilities and who ordinarily wouldn't get the opportunity to play the game.
n A FREE snooker-themed acrobatics show is taking place in the Winter Garden this weekend as Trick Shots hits town.
Trick Shots is a spectacular new acrobatics show especially created as the highlight of the 'Sheffield Snooker City' celebrations.
Two giant stilt-walking players will take part in an usual game of snooker and giant snooker balls will come to life .
The performances will take place today at 1pm and 4.30pm, and tomorrow at 2pm and 4.30pm.
