Drugs users aid fellow victims

USERS at a unit which helps people battle drug and alcohol misuse have been helping fellow victims on the road to recovery.

Peer support from so-called ‘rehab grads’ has boosted the recovery of Doncaster people attending New Beginnings substance misuse services.

The graduates are people in recovery from drug or alcohol misuse, some of whom have attended New Beginnings, which is run by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust.

They run a recovery café and peer support group, offering an insight into ways of coping.

Service manager Stuart Green said: “The rehab grads bring thoughts and personal stories of strength and hope around recovery. An important part of recovery for clients is being able to put something back in, and the project helps this process.”
