Drivers hurt in two-car smash

AN ELDERLY motorist had to be cut free from her car after it landed on its side in a crash.

A Ford Fiesta and Peugeot 106 collided at the junction of the A57 Aston Bypass and Mansfield Road, Rotherham.

The 81-year-old Fiesta driver was taken to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital with serious injuries including a broken jaw, internal injuries and suspected fractured hip. The Peugeot driver, a 21-year-old man from Sheffield, was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the man was travelling along Aston Way towards the M1 and the Fiesta was heading towards Sheffield and attempting to turn right into Mansfield Road.

Anyone with information about Wednesday’s crash, which happened at 2.40pm, is asked to call police on 101.
