A MOTORIST is in hospital with serious head injuries after his car left the M1, went up a banking and rolled over.

The 28-year-old, from Kiveton Park, Rotherham, was travelling on the northbound stretch near Meadowhall when his car ran put of control at around 4.30pm on Monday.

Police said his silver MG ZR car is believed to have been travelling in the centre lane, when the driver apparently lost control and left motorway.

The driver was trapped in his car and had to be released by firefighters before he was taken to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield, where he is detained.

Witnesses should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 641 of February 11.
