A YOUNG man found dead in a South Yorkshire canal after a birthday night out joked on Facebook the day before that he had three nights of celebration planned.
Jonathan Law, known to friends as Trigger, was found dead two days after he failed to return home from a night out in Swinton.
He was celebrating his birthday on the night he vanished after turning 22 the day before.
On his birthday he wrote a message on his Facebook site thanking friends and family for their birthday wishes and joked about the number of nights out he had planned.
Jonathan wrote he was ‘ever so slightly hungover’ on his birthday but said it was ‘worth it’. He joked that there were ‘only three more nights of celebrations to go’.
He also wrote ‘love you all’ to well-wishers who had sent birthday messages.
Police divers discovered Jonathan’s body in the canal in Swinton on Monday night.
Police are not treating his death as suspicious and have handed the file to the coroner.
Jonathan was last seen in the Bridge Bar on Rowms Lane, Swinton, but friends said his last movements were captured on CCTV.
Pal Ryan Straw said: “I understand from the CCTV footage that the police have, that you can see him staggering near the side of the canal.
“He was on his own, there wasn’t anyone behind him or anything. I had been with him on the night and he was his usual self and in a happy mood.”
