The UK’s only Boeing 787 Dreamliner has arrived in Doncaster – and could become a regular sight in the skies above the town.

The world’s newest airliner attracted crowds of aviation fans to Robin Hood Airport as the craft took part in a series of flight training exercises ahead of going into service in the next few months.

The TUI Thomson Airways branded plane has been carrying out manoeuvres at a number of key UK airports.

It is set to be based at Manchester from July for scheduled flights to Florida and Mexico.

Airport managing director Steve Gill said: “We are delighted TUI have chosen the airport to undertake a number of training and testing exercises for the Dreamliner. The airport has a long-standing partnership with TUI and we have worked hard to secure the training is held here.”

Mr Gill said the length of the airport’s runway - nearly 2,900m and one of the longest in Europe – was a key factor in bringing the Dreamliner to Doncaster.
