PLANS are being drawn up to stage charity dragon boat racing again at Doncaster Lakeside.
The Dragon Boat Challenge was run at the venue last year and it is now expected to return in July.
When it takes place on July 23 this year, up to 36 crews will once again have the opportunity to take to the water aboard 30ft brightly-painted Chinese dragon boats.
Teams will be battling it out to become the new Dragon Boat Champions of Doncaster, attempting to take the title from last year’s winners, which was the team from Thales Digital Endeavours.
Organisers at Doncaster Tourism say it will be a full day of activities for all of the family.
It will include lion dancers, a children’s fun fair, world foods, and a number of arts and crafts stalls.
The event will once again be raising money for the Rotary Club’s chosen charity and other worthy causes.
A similar event held at the same venue last year raised over £9,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and other causes.
Councillor Jonathan Wood, Cabinet Member for Business and Regeneration, said: “Last year’s event was a huge success and 2011 looks set to be bigger and better.
“This is a great opportunity to get a group of friends or colleagues together and raise some money for good causes.”
