Readers should know of proposed draconian cuts in the housing and council tax benefits service.
The council said no cuts would affect front-line services. However, this dispels that myth as those claiming HB and CTB are among the most disadvantaged and are definitely a front-line service.
The council and Capita propose that up to 60 jobs will be cut from revenue and benefit services in the next 12 months. They are on top of jobs the council has already admitted to axing. This will lead to a disorganised service reminiscent of when the HB/CTB service was outsourced in 1999 and chaos ensued.
They are to reduce targets, shut area offices and reduce assistance for vulnerable individuals, leading to people being made homeless and landlords no longer renting to people on benefits.
