MUMS at a Doncaster playgroup could be forgiven for thinking they are seeing double at a weekly playgroup.

MUMS at a Doncaster playgroup could be forgiven for thinking they are seeing double at a weekly playgroup.

That’s because parents dropping in at Rossington Children’s Centre can have twice the fun at the town’s only dedicated playgroup for twins.

The Double Delight group, which runs every Tuesday, has been up and running since September 2011 and was the brainchild of mum Melissa Hathaway, aged 29, who hatched the idea while she was pregnant with her own twins, Jacob and Joshua.

“I thought there must be lots of others just like me,” she said. “I wasn’t sure what to expect having twins so I started looking around for other mums with twins on Facebook and the idea was borne out of that.”

She added: “There was nowhere around like that, so it seemed a good idea and that’s how we got up and running.”

The group has attracted interest from as far afield as Bradford and Rotherham and Melissa added: “It has really helped raise awareness of the issues of having twins.

“It’s very different from just having one little one to look after and there are lots of things that you don’t always think about.”

The group at the centre in Grantham Street began with just a handful of twins but now the session, which runs between 10am and 11.30am, attracts more than 10 sets of twins each week

Melissa added: “We do all sorts – games, singing, music, dancing, messy play – and it can be quite a handful at times, but everyone has a lot of fun and we all really enjoy it.”

She added: “You are always busy when you have twins so this gives those in the same boat somewhere to chat and discuss things with people who understand.”
