Guests at the High Sheriff of South Yorkshire’s summer reception thought they were seeing double.

Lady Ruby Sykes and her husband Hugh held a party at their home in Hathersage, Derbyshire, for more than 300 party-goers.

A spokesman said: “Sir Hugh seemed to be very busy during the course of the evening, managing to be in two places at the same time.

“The puzzle was resolved by the revelation that he has a double – his identical twin brother, Richard.”

Also at the event were identical twin police cadets – 17-year-olds Jack and Josh Carlin from Doncaster who helped to confuse the guests even more.

The guest list included judges, members of the judiciary in South Yorkshire, High Sheriffs from neighbouring counties, mayors and their consorts, the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire David Crompton and his wife and senior representatives from other organisations.

Other guests included personal friends of Lady Ruby and Sir Hugh, including one couple who travelled from the Canary Islands to be there.

The partygoers were given a tour of the grounds.
