The family of a mum and daughter found dead in Wath-Upon-Dearne this week are ‘at a loss to know why they died’.

Jean Redfern, aged 70, and 33-year-old Sarah Redfern were discovered at a property on Sandygate on Monday.

Peter Redfern, also aged 70 and of Sandygate, has appeared at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court today charged with both of their murders.

A statement from a relative, released by police, said: “The family of Jean and Sarah are devastated by the news of their deaths.

“Jean was a much loved sister and aunt.

“Sarah was a wonderful, kind and loving niece and cousin.

“We are at a loss to know why they died, but ask as a family that we are allowed to grieve and try to come to terms with what has happened.”
