Two South Yorkshire organisations have each scooped a £25,000 award.
Manvers Lake and Dearne Valley Trust, along with Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, have been named as winners of the Enterprising Communities Awards by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.
Manvers Lake and Dearne Valley Trust provides community access to a full range of sporting activities and conservation opportunities, while the RUCST uses sport to encourage a better standard of living for local people.
Ian Rodwell of the Manvers Lake and Dearne Valley Trust said: “Thanks to this award we can now invest in the club and provide the new boat and equipment store which will help us give our members even greater scope to try new things. We really do want to encourage people to try sports that they may not have considered before and to have fun.”
The RUCST will use their award money to offer an extended programme of activity. Jamie Noble said: “There are few times that we are speechless but this is probably one of them. I would like to thank everyone for their efforts and the continued contribution they make.
“The difference we make is really important to the local community and not just those who engage directly with us but also those who have a better quality of life as a result of the activities we provide.”
The Enterprising Communities Programme aims to stimulate community enterprise and grow the social investment in former mining communities.
