Doncaster zoo ‘inundated’ with applicants for lions sleepover

BOSSES at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, in Doncaster, say they have been inundated with applications to sleep in the attraction’s lions’ enclosure.

They have offered people the chance to sleep with just metal bars between them and the lions as a fundraiser for Comic Relief, and hundreds of people have come forward for the sponsored event, say organisers. Four will be chosen to take part.

Those who have applied include an army veteran who toured Iraq three times, conservationists desperate to raise awareness of the plight of lions in the wild and big cat fans.

Park director Cheryl Williams said: ”We can’t believe how many applicants we have had for the sleepover and there is still a week before applications close.

The sponsored sleepover with the big cats will take place at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Branton, in the week before Comic Relief on March 15. The minimum sponsorship will be £200 per person. Log onto www.yorkshirewildlifepark.com for full details and application forms.
