Proving to be pizza perfect is Doncaster takeaway Red Tomato.
Upper crust when it comes to creating and delivering the very best in dough-lightful dishes is the Thorne Road business which has not only been shortlisted as the UK’s Best Pizza and Pasta Takeaway, but has also won the Northern Region Pizza Chef Award in the cheese category.
Owner Parviz Hayati, 57, who runs the company with sons Comron, 30, and Darius, 28, said he was over the moon with the result.
“It feels great. It’s normally restaurants that enter but we’ve never shied away from competition.
“We’ve won the title of UK’s best pizza takeaway twice before and it’s exciting to get the recognition from your fellow peers. It lifts you up.”
Parviz travelled to Bolton for the competition and has now been invited to London next month to compete with winners of other regions for the national pizza chef title.
Red Tomato’s winning entry is a pizza canape - very small, bite-size, pizzas with chorizo or smoked salmon filled with soft cheese.
“The beauty of what we do is we try to be different. The kind of pizza we do, you can’t find anywhere else,” explained Parviz. “The canapes offer a nice combination. The judges said it was a simple idea but one they had never seen before and they asked why no-one had thought of it before.
“At Red Tomato we pride ourselves to think outside the box.”
Red Tomato celebrates its fourth year in business next month.
