Following several reports of theft at the site of a Doncaster solar farm under construction, police have issued a safety warning to would-be thieves.

Officers have been called to several reports of theft at a new solar farm being developed in Campsall Road, Askern, while the farm is being constructed.

When completed the solar farm will be connected to the National Grid and provide power for nearly 2,000 local homes.

Police are warning would-be-thieves considering stealing property from the site that they risk fatal injuries due to the levels of electrical current produced within the equipment.

PC Gary Burton, from the local policing team, said: “We are aware that there have been several reported thefts at the solar farm already but nobody has yet been hurt. Tampering with electrical generation sites is likely to result in serious or fatal injuries. The Solar Farm at Askern will generate in excess of 11,000 Volts of Alternating Current and anyone considering stealing property from the site is putting their life at risk and potentially the lives of others as well.”

Anybody who wishes to report suspicious activity at the Askern Colliery Solar Farm in Campsall Road should call 101. If a crime is in progress or a life is in danger, call 999.
