I understand why RB, (Letters, November 6), is querying the name of the Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood airport as at first glance it does seem a misnomer and it’s certainly a bit of a mouthful.
But in fact in world terms both Doncaster and more particularly Sheffield, are well known and the Robin Hood character is both well known worldwide and has local connections with both Nottinghamshire to the south and to Yorkshire to the west, (Sheffield). and to the north, (Wakefield).
At 30 minutes from Sheffield and less than 20 miles, DSRH airport is quite local compared to many international airports around the world.
What would help to make it Sheffield’s airport is to have regular buses running at, say, 30-minute intervals direct from Sheffield City Centre to the airport.
That’s not going to happen until there are more flights from the airport but maybe it’s time for Peel Airports, (owners of DSRH), and a local bus company, (and the local Councils and/or the LEP?), to invest in a route ahead of time.
Perhaps the route could use the Sheffield Parkway and the M1/M18 and calling at an interchange at the Sheffield Business Park/AMRC and at a mini interchange at the M18 Doncaster junction (J3) before using the new FARRRS link road to the Airport.
