A convicted Doncaster sex offender who failed to notify the police of a change of address has been arrested in London following an appeal on BBC Crimewatch last night.

Peter Whiteley, 50, is bound by the terms of his Sex Offender Notification Requirements, which include informing police when he moves house and officers are re-appealing to try and locate him.

But, on 28 June 2013, he moved out of an address in Exchange Street in Doncaster town centre and failed to notify the authorities.

After his appearance on Crimewatch, over 60 calls were received from the public of potential sightings of Whiteley.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police arrested him this afternoon as a result of information received.

He is currently in custody in London being questioned by officers.

DS Steve Palmer said: “I would like to offer my thanks to members of the public who made contact to assist in locating Whitely.

“They have played a pivotal role in enabling officers to locate, and subsequently arrest him.”
