Doncaster Rovers players have shown their support for a Doncaster Council domestic abuse campaign, by sporting t-shirts carrying the ‘There’s no excuse for domestic abuse’ message.
Players sported the t-shirts in their pre-match warm up before the 2-0 defeat of Coventry City at the Keepmoat Stadium on Boxing Day.
Around 7,000 supporters were reminded that for people in abusive relationships, Christmas isn’t always the most wonderful time of the year - but there’s no need to suffer in silence.
The timing of the support was welcomed, given that the numbers of incidents typically rise over the holiday period when the stresses of Christmas increase the risk of harm from domestic abuse. This can ruin Christmas for all the family, especially children and young people.
Jade Sims, commercial marketing executive at Doncaster Rovers said: “We were pleased to back this campaign which is aimed at both victims of domestic abuse and anyone who would like support to change their abusive behaviour before it escalates.
“We hope that we have helped raise awareness of the help that is available and that anyone who is affected will call the helpline for support.”
Karen Johnson, Doncaster Council’s Assistant Director for Communities said: “We welcome new opportunities to get our campaign messages across to our residents and this was an excellent way of reaching a lot of people who may be affected in some way or know a friend or family member who they can pass the number on to.”
The dedicated helpline number (0800 4701 505) is available for anyone wanting support and further information can be found at www.doncasterdomesticabuse.co.uk
