Prisoners who wrecked a prison during a riot two years ago have received jail sentences totalling more than 80 years.
Yesterday the last four of 15 men convicted of rioting or violent disorder at HMP Moorland, near Doncaster, between November 2 and 4, 2010, were sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court.
Earlier cases were the subject of reporting restrictions.
A number of prisoners were involved in the rioting and caused a substantial amount of damage and disruption to the prison.
The incidents had a significant impact on prison staff and prisoners and included a large fire.
A bin was set alight and the blaze escalated, with 40ft flames taking hold of the surrounding area and shooting through the roof.
South Yorkshire Police, supported by the Prison Service, conducted a lengthy investigation into the riots and provided a dedicated team of detectives to identify the offenders involved in the disruption.
More than 80 suspects were interviewed and 22 were charged with rioting or violent disorder.
The 15 who were found guilty or admitted their crimes received further prison terms totalling 83 years and eight months.
Acting detective inspector Helen Lewis said: “This has been a complex and lengthy inquiry, due to the nature, location and large number of people involved.
“The investigation was made more difficult by relocation of prisoners involved throughout the country. This created difficulties identifying those responsible. The disorder which occurred over three nights was organised and appeared to be pre-planned, resulting in extensive damage and serious injuries.”
Marian Mahoney, Moorland governor, said: “The sentences reflect the seriousness with which society views such actions.”
