Plans to build a hotel at Doncaster Racecourse are still on hold - despite a bumper year for Town Moor.

Proposals to construct a state of the art hotel have been put on the backburner for the foreseeable future - although bosses are hopeful that the plan will still go ahead.

A spokesman for operators Arena Racing Company said: “The intention is to maintain the planning permission that was previously granted and to review the requirements for a hotel in this location.

“It is intended that plans will go ahead in the future pending shareholder agreement.”

The news comes as tickets for this year’s St Leger went on sale on Monday - and after Town Moor reported an increase in annual attendances in 2013.

The racecourse welcomed 250,000 people to 35 racedays and three live music evenings last year amounting to a 10 per cent increase in average attendance.

This progress has gone some way towards an overall increase in average attendances across ARC’s 15 racecourses with the group reporting that figures are 5.2 per cent up, outperforming the industry average.
