Doncaster Prison inmates injured in collision on motorway

Three inmates from Doncaster Prison were taken to hospital this morning after the van they were travelling in was involved in a collision on a South Yorkshire motorway.

They were travelling along the northbound stretch of the A1M, between junctions 37 and 38 around Barnsley, when the van was involved in a smash with a lorry.

Emergency services were alerted to the collision at 7.50am today.

Police and prison officers escorted the injured prisoners to hospital.

An investigation is underway.
