National Volunteer Week is celebrated across the United Kingdom each year in early June. It is the biggest week in the national volunteering calendar and is focussed on recognising the contribution of local volunteers.
This year Volunteers’ Week will focus on ‘The Big Celebration’, encouraging organisations to highlight stories of individuals who already volunteer and to identify volunteers who have made a huge difference within their communities through their volunteering effort.
To celebrate this event, Doncaster Mind will be holding a Vintage Tea Party on Tuesday 7 June between 1.30pm and 3.00pm at its Wellbeing Centre on Netherhall Road, Doncaster.
Jackie Lewis, Chief Executive of Doncaster Mind said: “We decided to host a Vintage Tea Party at our Wellbeing Centre as a fun way of recognising our fantastic team of volunteers as part of the Volunteers’ Week’s ‘Big Celebration’. Some of our more than 50 amazing volunteers will enjoy a scrumptious afternoon tea where Doncaster Mind staff will wait on them, serving home-made cakes and even a little bubbly! “
“Doncaster Mind supports anyone affected by mental health issues by offering support through a number of services which include befriending, wellbeing, counselling, information and advice, social cafes and group workshops. As a local charity many of these services would not be able to run if it wasn’t for all the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, some who have been with Doncaster Mind for over 20 years.”
Jackie concludes: “This event is our way of thanking our wonderful volunteers for their dedication and commitment to supporting people affected by mental health issues, and donating countless hours to us over the years. It’s these hours which allow us to continue to deliver our services to the people who need them.”
