A man had to be persuaded to leave his burning home in Doncaster last night.

He was said to be ‘under the influence’ when Doncaster and Edlington fire crews arrived at the house in Rose Avenue, Balby, about 8pm.

They found two fires had been started in the lounge but the man refused to leave until police arrived to escort him from the premises. He did not need hospital treatment.

The fires caused mainly smoke damage, said a spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.
