This is the 22-year-old man who tragically lost his life after his car crashed into a horse in Askern.

The man has been officially named by Police today as Stephen Peter Smith of Toll Bar.

Mr Smith was seriously injured in a collision with the animal in Moss Road, Askern.

He was driving an Audi A4 car when he collided with the horse and was taken to hospital shortly after to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened in the early hours of September 18, and after fighting for his life for two weeks Mr Smith passed away on Thursday.

It has been reported on social media that he leaves behind a young daughter and a fiancée, who is pregnant with their second child.

An inquest is expected to be opened later this month.

The horse died instantly as a result of the collision and police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
