A Doncaster nan will rub shoulders with royalty next month after securing an prestigious party invite.
For Sheila Barnes, 76, is heading to Buckingham Palace after receiving an invite to one of the Queen’s famous Royal Garden Parties.
Sheila, a grandma-of-six from Warmsworth, will head to London on May 21 with her daughter-in-law Jill, after being nominated by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust.
She is lead governor at RDaSH and recently raised more than £1,000 by sky diving.
She took the giant leap from 15,000ft in a tandem jump to collect funds for the St John’s Hospice Development Appeal which aims to raise £500,000 towards a £1.8 million redevelopment of the Balby hospice.
It will see the Weston Road hospice completely renovated to provide a modern, welcoming, comforting and supportive environment for Doncaster’s patients facing a life-limiting illness – which include cancer - along with their families, carers and friends.
Sheila said: “I’m so excited. I’m really looking forward to the garden party - I can’t wait.”
Chris Bain, Chief Executive of RDaSH, said: “I’m so pleased that Sheila has been chosen to attend Buckingham Palace - she really deserves to attend this special event.”
