Plans to build council houses on eight sites across Doncaster look set to take a step forward today.

Doncaster Council’s cabinet has been asked to approve the ‘2015-18 Council House New Build Delivery Programme’ to construct 123 homes in total.

The Homes and Communities Agency is set to provide grant funding to support the £10 million programme.

A report to be considered by the council’s cabinet says 60 properties would be built at Great North Road in Doncaster, in a project which will be called Layden Drive.

The remainder will be spread across Balby, Bentley, Armthorpe, Adwick, Rossington and Hatfield.

Doncaster Council’s cabinet was to vote whether to approve the build strategy at a meeting this morning.

There would be 19 homes at Victoria Court, Bentley, 12 at Ashwood House, Adwick, and 11 at the Armthorpe Works Depot, Mere Lane, Armthorpe.

Seven homes each are planned for Shelley Avenue, Balby and Abbey Green, Hatfield. Rossington would get seven new homes, with four at Wildflower Close and three at Whitcomb Drive.

There are also plans to bring a number of empty properties back into use under the Affordable Housing Programme.

The council has approved a £10m budget for borrowing to bring empty properties back into use under a purchase and repair project.

The grant was awarded for an initially planned 83 properties.

A total of 16 houses were bought during 2013-14 and another 71 are programmed to be bought and repaired during 2014-15.

Officials want to extend that by another 18.

Other registered housing providers are looking to provide another 250 affordable homes.

Earlier this month seven families moved into the latest council houses to be built - the Broom Hill Drive development in Cantley.
