Doncaster Council has announced changes to bin and recycling collections over Christmas and New Year.

The authority is reminding residents that there will be no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day so collection days will change for three weeks over the holiday period and could be earlier or later than usual. Details of the changes can be found on the back page of the bin collection calendars posted through the door of all households at the end of October, on stickers applied to black bins at the end of November or on the council website www.doncaster.gov.uk.

Coun Christine Mills, Cabinet Member for Housing, Environment and Waste said: “We recognise that for many people Christmas means visitors, Christmas dinners, presents and extra waste in their black bins. To help accommodate this extra waste we have a number of additional black bin collection weeks over the holidays. This means that there will be no green bin collections during the weeks starting the 22 or 29 December as these will now be borough-wide black bin weeks.”

Much of our extra waste at Christmas can be recycled, so residents are being encouraged to use their green box for things like cans, bottles and cardboard.

Should you have more recycling than your box can hold, Household Waste Recycling Centres across Doncaster will open daily during the holiday season except for 25 and 26 December and 1 January and residents can also make use of a number of recycling sites in locations such as supermarket car parks across the borough.

Collection days will return to normal from the week starting Monday 12 January and you should refer to your bin collections calendar for details of your green/black bin weeks. If you no longer have the bin collection calendar that was posted through your door, you can download a copy at: www.doncaster.gov.uk/mydoncaster

There will be no collections on 25 and 26 December or 1 January so collections days will change over the holiday period. The scheduled changes to collections are:
